Lake Lure, North Carolina
Located on the beautiful northern end of
720-acre Lake Lure, the town of Lake Lure NC offers an eclectic and
tourist-oriented selection of shops, restaurants and accommodations.
The town also has a boating
facility, the
Lake Lure Marina where boats can be rented, a public
beach for swimming and a lovely lakeside park at the Morse Park
peninsula that is open to residents and visitors. The lake was
created in 1927 by t he
creation of a hydroelectric dam on the Rocky Broad River and is
considered one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in America by
National Geographic.
Covered, pontoon
boat tours of Lake Lure are offered at the Marina and are a
wonderful way to see this extraordinary lake. In recent years, the
Lake Lure area has served as the filming location for several major
motion pictures including Last of the Mohicans with Daniel
Day-Lewis; My Fellow Americans, a 1996
comedy starring Jack Lemmon and James Garner; and Dirty Dancing
starring Patrick Swayze. Lake Lure, for a town of its small size, is
fortunate to have a great little library, the
Mountain Branch Library, located at 150 Bill's Creek Road.
