Hudson, North Carolina
The Town of Hudson NC, incorporated in 1905, is located in Caldwell County
approximately 15 miles no rth of Interstate 40 and was named after the Hudson
brothers, Monroe and Johnnie, who were among the first lumber men in the area
and became leaders of what was known as Hudsonville. The "ville" was
dropped in
1889. 
The town has two parks: Redwood
Park which features a beautiful playground with children's slides/activities, a
swimming pool and several ball fields; and the Hickman Windmill
Park which features the
Hudson Railroad Depot Museum as well as a 100
year old windmill. Hudson is also home to
South Caldwell High School and
Caldwell Community College,
which
has a campus in Hudson
with an enrollment of 4,000 students.
Hudson started as a sawmill camp more than 100 years
ago, and as the city grew textile and f urniture industries played prominent
roles in the economy. Hudson today is has a vibrant economy based on small
business and tourism, and there are approximately 150 businesses currently
established.
Hudson is home to many of the county's industrial leaders, including Kincaid
Furniture, Shurtape Technologies, Shurford Mills and Sealed Air Corporation.
Caldwell County, known as the Furniture
Capital of the South, is home to the "20
Miles of Furniture"
where numerous outlets and stores offer deep discounts. Located along or near a
stretch of U.S. Highway 321 between Lenoir and Hickory, the area,
which passes though Hudson, is a required destination for any
serious shopper looking for furniture. 
. Hudson's downtown features a mix of mom-and-pop businesses and is a short drive
to the Hudson Uptown Building, known locally as the HUB. This former renovated
school building has become a favorite for community gatherings and Hudson's
acclaimed annual dinner theatres.
Cajah’s Mountain, founded in 1983, is one of Caldwell
County’s most popular residential communities. The town is located near Hudson
and has seen recent expansion in residential growth along with commercial and
industrial development.
