Located
in the heart of Transylvania County, Brevard NC is a wonderful
small town that is not only a
great place to live but also a renowned tourist destination. In
downtown Brevard
you'll find all of the familiar touchstones of a classic American
small town -an old-fashioned soda shop, a 1930s-era movie theater,
even a locally-owned hardware store. And surrounding the city are
hundreds of thousands of acres of pristine wilderness, protected
forever in the
Dupont State Forest,
Gorges State Park,
Pisgah National Forests. Brevard is also right at the center of
one of the most famous
waterfall regions in America, in fact
Transylvania County is known as "The Land of Waterfalls". Over 250
are located within a short drive of downtown.
Brevard is also home
to a colony of white squirrels that even have their own festival
-the
White Squirrel Festival and to the
Brevard Music Festival, one of the best music festivals in
America.
Brevard College, a small, private, United Methodist liberal arts
college, is the educational centerpiece of Brevard, and its lovely
campus is located just east of downtown.
