Spelunking is the official name used for
the recreational activity of exploring caves but it is more commonly
referred to as "caving". Like skydiving and rock climbing, caving is
about as adventurous as it gets, and while going out on your own is
possible, the best advice is to hook up with a professional cave
guide company and let them plan your outing, as well of course,
accompany and guide you. The
Linville Caverns,
located south of Boone, are open to the public and a good place to
experience caving in a safe and controlled environment without the
need of hiring a guide.
