The
Wilkes Heritage Museum, located in the restored historic
Wilkes County Courthouse, opened in November of 2005 and celebrates
the unique heritage of Wilkes County. Through a collection of
artifacts and images, stories of all facets of life in Wilkes County
are told. Self-guided tours feature exhibits that include early
settlement, medicine, military history, moonshine, and early
stock-car racing.
The
Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame is also located at the museum and
showcases the rich musical heritage of the greater Blue Ridge
Mountains area from northern Georgia to northern Virginia. The Hall
of Fame educates, defines and interprets the history of music in the
Blue Ridge area and musicians in all genres from the region with
exhibits and an annual celebration of inductees.
