A wonderful way to highlight a day trip into the surrounding mountains, no
matter what your itinerary or destination, is to bring along a picnic lunch.
This is particularly true if your exploring takes you on the Blue Ridge Parkway
or deep into one of the national forests. Restaurants are few and far between,
and besides, what could be better than eating a picnic lunch beside a wilderness
waterfall or from a rocky overlook perched high above the green valleys below?
If this idea appeals to you, then you are in luck, because not only does Western
North Carolina have an unlimited supply of really great picnic spots, but there
are three stores in Asheville within minutes of each other where you can purchase
the ingredients for an unforgettable picnic lunch. They are located on Biltmore
Avenue just as you leave Pack Square heading south. Park your car near any of
the stores.
Laurey's (Yum!): Catering and gourmet to go, as well as easy
going breakfast (muffins and scones, breakfast burritos, wonderful
